Pop star Beyonce brought down the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with her Super Bowl Halftime show performance on Sunday evening. While it wasn't big on flashy theatrics like past shows, her performance seemed to focus on her big voice and wild dance moves. Destiny's Child also reunited for a hot minute during the show.
The show opened with a Vince Lombardi quote about the winning spirit. Glowing silhouettes of Beyonce's face and curvaceous figure lit up the stage while she sang brief a cappella version of “Love on Top” before launching into “Crazy in Love.” She was solo on stage for a bit, but was later backed up by a team of dancers, revisiting the original 2004 video choreography for “Love.” Beyonce brought the raw ferocity from her live shows to the halftime performance, rocking out the guitar player.
Beyonce kept marching on with “End of Time,” but brought her A-game to past hit “Baby Boy.” She aligned herself with a screen that created an army of Beyonces moving to the Sean Paul-assisted track. The dance breakdown from the music video was recreated with Beyonce gyrating on the ground and whipping her hair back and forth.
The nostalgia behind Beyonce's long career hit a peak when Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams popped up on stage to sing the group's biggest hits. They harmonized on a shortened version of “Bootylicious,” but ran the show with “Independent Women Pt. I.” The stage was in a blaze as the three ladies looked incredible performing together, even striking the “Charlie's Angels” pose. Rowland and Williams later backed Beyonce on “Singles Ladies (Put a Ring on it)." Each D.C. member sang a part of the track while moving to the iconic choreography from its music video.
Beyonce later bid adieu to Rowland and Williams and was solo once again. She slowed down things with a stirring rendition of “Halo,” hitting vocal runs and basking in the moment of being front and center on the Superbowl stage. The stadium glowed in a blue hue while Beyonce's sang her heart out on the “I Am... Sasha Fierce” ballad. It was a strong note to end the show on.
“Thank you for this moment. God bless ya'll,” Beyonce said leaving the halftime show stage.
