If any recording artist can pull off a surprise release of an album, it is Beyonce. As CBS News reports on Dec. 17, Beyonce’s fifth album, released last week has already shattered iTunes sales records.

The pop singer shocked fans and the entire world as she released her self-titled album back on Dec. 13. It was a risk, but has already proven to be a smart business strategy as in just a few days after the release, the album only trials Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” in sales for the entire year of 2013.

According to Apple, Beyonce’s surprise release has already sold more than 617,000 units in its first three days in the U.S. and 828,773 worldwide, shattering both iTunes records.

With sure to be hit songs like “Drunk In Love”, “Superpower”, “Blue” and “Mine”, the album will only continue to raise in sales. Two of our collaborators ironically round out the top 5 iTunes sellers for the year. That list include husband Jay Z, Drake, Justin Timberlake and rising rock band Imagine Dragons.
