Beyonce releases self-titled new album, 'upgrades' outlook on Friday the 13th

Update 12/18/13: According to an Apple press release, "Beyonce" is the fastest selling album ever on iTunes with 828,773 sold in three days. She broke the U.S. first-week album sales record with 617,213 sold and is number one in 104 countries.

Either some entertainers aren't superstitious or they're trying to upgrade the reputation of Friday the 13th. Tyler Perry released "Tyler Perry's 'A Madea Christmas" on Fri., Dec. 13, and Beyonce released her self-titled fifth album completely out of nowhere on iTunes on Thurs., Dec. 12, at 11 p.m. CT, exclusively on iTunes.

The album contains 14 songs and 15 videos.

According to Billboard, a la carte song purchases won't be available until Thurs., Dec. 20.

The release date for physical copies of the CD and downloadable options for other websites outside of iTunes are unknown at this time.

Beyonce may be taking advice from her own husband's mixed response to the "Magna Carta" release with Samsung. Easily hitting the top of the Billboard charts, "Magna Carta" was available to a million Samsung phones on Jul. 4. There were complaints about error messages and Samsung users not being able to download the album, but it was still an innovative way of taking advantage of the digital market.

This weekend will prove what the digital market can do for "Beyonce." Billboard predicts 600,000 in sales considering the 430,000 downloads that have sold in approximately one day.

The superstar was also in Chicago this weekend for The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour at the United Center, also on Friday the 13th.

Holding steady to her 22-day vegan diet, she stopped by Karyn's Cooked, at 738 N. Wells St., for lunch, according to a tweet from owner Karyn Calabrese.
