Beyonce is a new mom to daughter Blue Ivy, but the journey to her bliss has not always been paved with gold. In her new HBO documentary, “Life is But a Dream,” the star opens up about her previous pregnancy that ended in miscarriage, according to a Jan. 31 Huffington Post report.
The miscarriage is not a secret and was mentioned by Beyonce’s husband in his song “Glory.” In the song, Jay-Z raps, “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic/We was afraid you'd disappear/But nah baby you magic.” This is the first time the star is going public with her personal pain.
“About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life,” the singer says in her documentary. The star and her husband had already picked out names for the baby and were over the moon with excitement over their pregnancy.
"I envisioned what my child would look like ... I was feeling very maternal," she says. But later on something went awry and the couple got the devastating news any parent could get during a sonogram; that they had lost the baby - there was no heartbeat.
Finding healing in her craft, the singer wrote music. “I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life ... And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through.”
Good news prevailed for the couple with the successful pregnancy and birth of their angel, Blue Ivy. “Being pregnant was very much like falling in love. You are so open. You are so overjoyed,” she said.
"Life Is But a Dream," airs Feb. 16 on HBO.
