Stunning new reports surfaced on Tuesday that Beyoncé lip-synched the national anthem at the Presidential inauguration.
According to the UK Times, Beyoncé was lip-synching the Star Spangled Banner to a pre-recorded backing track. Kristen DuBois, spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band, told the Times that the former Destiny's Child star opted to rely on a studio version of the anthem.
This is apparently standard procedure for important events like this, giving performers a chance to pick the safer way to sing. Beyoncé decided to go with the recorded track shortly before her performance in order to risk singing live at the Capitol in front of hundreds.
Meanwhile, media outlets all over the country gushed at Beyoncé's "flawless" performance, saying it was one of the best live presentations of the national anthem to date.
TMZ posted a short blurb saying that Beyoncé flubbed her performance, and then quickly added that it was just a joke and that she actually "f***ng nail it!"
People magazine called Beyoncé's national anthem rendering a "powerful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner - while wearing a chiffon-and-velvet Emilio Pucci gown with a pair of 80-carat emerald earrings and a 50-carat emerald ring by Lorraine Schwartz."
And Us Weekly went as far as reporting that Beyoncé didn't even rehearse until the night before for her performance.
"Her rendition of the national anthem was impressive, to say the least," Us raved, "even more so considering she had almost no time to rehearse with the United States Marine Band, which accompanied her performance."
Little did they know that lip-synch rehearsing does not require much preparation...
