Beyonce lip-synced at Obama inauguration

President Obama was sworn in for his second term on Monday. It was a star filled day with performances by Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Jennifer Hudson, and Beyonce. It was reported that Beyonce lip-synced the national anthem during her performance.

In a report by cbsnews.com, A Marine band spokeswoman told news outlets that the band was notified that Beyonce would use a pre-recorded voice track. Master Sergeant Kristen DuBois stated, “We don’t know why, but that is what we were instructed to do so that is what we did. It’s not because Beyonce can’t sing. We all know Beyonce can sing. We all know the Marine Band can play.” A source told CBS News that Beyonce performed the national anthem live, but she pre-recorded a track of the song to sing over. This is a standard performing practice.

The pre-recorded track was for back-up and safety purposes, but Beyonce’s microphone was on and you could hear her voice. All inaugural music is pre-recorded in case of freezing temperatures, equipment failure, or any other circumstance.
