One of the most talked about performances during Monday’s inauguration was Beyonce’s “Star Spangled Banner.” Almost immediately folks began to speculate whether or not the performance was live or if the singer phoned it in. A rep for the United States Marine Band confirmed that the performance was indeed lip-synced (Page 6, Jan 22).
Kristin DuBois said “All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day,” she goes on to say that the band played live however, they were notified at the last minute that Beyonce would use the pre-recorded track. DuBois said that the singer didn't practice the performance until the night before: "she's getting ready for the Super Bowl, so we didn't have a chance to do anything with her until last night"

Beyonce’s camp has not specified why they came to that decision. One can only assume that they weren't planning on announcing the lip-syncing as the songbird dramatically took out her earpiece prompting one viewer to tweet “"Taking out the earpiece is Luke turning off the targeting system in the Death Star trench.
Fans of Beyonce are voicing their opinions on Twitter and most could care less about this news: "Lip-sync, live sing, use sign language...whatever Beyoncé does is fine by me." another says: "Anyone who respects Beyonce less after finding out she lip synced yesterday don't deserve her as their queen in the first place."
But of course, the jokes are starting as well with this one: "At least that's Beyonce's real hair. Right?" Another poked fun at the rumor that Beyonce faked her pregnancy: "Beyonce also birth-synced her baby. Still waiting on the definition of "birth-synced" but I'm pretty sure it's a thing and she did it."
