Beyonce GQ Magazine interview: I approach my shows like an athlete (Video)

Earlier this week cover photos of Beyonce in a cutoff football jersey top and leopard print bikini bottoms for the upcoming GQ Magazine February 2013 issue were leaked. Many Beyonce fans scoured the Internet to catch a glimpse of the leaked photos. Now according to Global Grind on Thursday, Jan. 10 they have obtained excerpts of Beyonce's actual GQ Magazine interview.

Beyonce apparently has decided to reveal more of herself this year than previously shared throughout her career thus far. Beyonce first began to offer her fans more incite to her personal life by using the social media network Instagram along with Tumblr to provide candid photos of her everyday life. The GQ Magazine will offer further reflection of Beyonce to fans by providing them with their first real glimpse of the sometimes elusive celebrity.

GQ took the opportunity to probe Beyonce about her approach when preparing for a show and what drives her forward. Beyonce elaborated on how she has worked harder to prove herself than just about anyone she knows within the music industry.

“I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want. I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.”

Beyonce also took the time out to provide information on how she is training for her upcoming Superbowl performance. Beyonce compared her approach to that of an athlete preparing for a competition.

“One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete. You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.”

Solange even offered some insight into Beyonce's character growing up and how she was a very protective sister.

"I can't tell you how many times in junior high school, how many boys and girls can say Beyoncé came and threatened to put some hands on them if they bothered me."

Beyonce fans can definitely look forward to the upcoming year full of surprises from her. Beyonce fans may also have the opportunity to view Beyonce more as a person than a celebrity.
