Now that’s one way to dispel divorce rumors! On Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, it was a family affair for Beyonce as she became the latest recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But the “Single Ladies” single definitely wasn’t solo for the honor—her hubby Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy hopped on stage to present the coveted award to her. Jay Z’s presence by his wife’s side comes after weeks of divorce rumors have plagued the power couple.
On Monday, Rolling Stone noted that the singer actually packed every track from her “Beyonce” album into her 15-minute medley on the annual awards show. The mini concert included the songs “Mine, “XO,” and all of the other songs from the album. She kicked off the buzzy performance by saying, "MTV, welcome to my world.”
But the buzziest moment may have been when Jay Z and Blue Ivy joined the pop superstar onstage to present her with this year’s Video Vanguard Award. Jay Z declared his wife "the greatest living entertainer," before he planted a smooch on her. Blue Ivy chimed in with "Good job Mommy!"
An emotional Beyonce ended the annual awards show with: "My beloved: I love you. My fans: I love you. MTV: I love you. Good night.”
Beyonce led the pack at the VMAs with a whopping eight nominations. She ultimately won for Best Cinematography and Best Video With a Social Message for the song “Pretty Hurts,” while she took home the Moonman for Best Collaboration for her duet with Jay Z on “Drunk In Love.”
The singer has had a long history with MTV’s famous awards show. Her first appearance on the VMA stage with Destiny’s Child back in 2000, according to the Los Angeles Times. In 2003, she hung upside down from the rafters for her solo “Baby Boy/Crazy in Love” medley, and in 2011 she famously rubbed her belly at the end of the song “Love On Top,” coyly revealing to fans that she was pregnant.
