By now everyone knows that Beyonce lip synced her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner on Monday at the Presidential Inauguration, but is it really THAT big of a deal?
When rumors first began to fly about Queen Bey lip syncing at the Inauguration no one knew for sure if the rumors were true,
Captain Kendra N. Motz, Media Officer of the U.S. Marine Corp Band, said the Presidential Inaugural Committee requested to accompany the Queen (Bey) in her performance, but “there was no opportunity for Ms. Knowles-Carter to rehearse with the Marine Band before the Inauguration so it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill-advised for such a high-profile event.”
Understandable, this is the Presidential Inauguration we’re talking about, not the Superbowl, not the World Series but the swearing in ceremony of our Commander in Chief… the leader of the free world!! There really is no room for error. If it had been me coordinating the event, I would’ve had EVERYBODY lip syncing. Let’s say Kelly Clarkson scratched a note during “My Country Tis of Thee”, or better yet, Beyonce forgot the words of the Star Spangled Banner (like so many in the past)… THAT would’ve been the topic of discussion instead of what was important; our PRESIDENT and his family!!!
“Each piece of music scheduled for performance in the Inauguration is pre-recorded for use in case of freezing temperatures, equipment failure, or extenuating circumstances,” Motz said.
No matter what comes of this, we all know that was Beyonce’s voice and we all know she can SANG… (not sing but SAAAAANG, honey…) so really, what’s the big deal? Is this just an opportunity to bash Beyonce because she doesn’t really present too many instances where she’s viewed in a negative light? What ever it may be fueling this discussion, I suggest we let it go!! Obviously there was a reason behind her lip syncing a performance as important as the Inauguration and from the explanation above, I completely understand.
Another spokesperson from the Marine Corp band Master Sgt. Kristin Dubois explained that to her knowledge, Beyonce was not singing. It was Beyonce’s voice, but a pre-recorded version of it.
After realizing that Beyonce did NOT have a chance to practice with the band, near freezing temperatures, along with the importance of the song as well as the event, can you now understand why Queen Bey would choose to lip sync her performance? I can.
