Beyonce graces an ad campaign for H&M’s summer clothing line, and the singer sizzles with tropical heat. Mrs. Carter, as she is called in the ads – it’s her real name, after all – shows off the summer line from a lounge chair that looks to be in the tropics. CBS News reports the story on Thursday, March 21.
An ordinary beach chair – aluminum poles and all – looks anything but ordinary with Beyonce sprawled in short black and white checkered shorts, with a flower in her hair. White sand, lush greenery in the background. Who could ask for more?
“I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements -- fire, water, earth and wind,” Beyonce said of the photo shoot. “It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial.”
And the clothes? It’s clothing H&M is selling, right? Not the tropics. Not Bey, herself. The Beyonce ad covers what a savvy tourist might pack –sundress, shorts, bikini, plus a few extras.
H&M says the ads were shot in the Bahamas, not in a studio, because they are meant to capture the many sides of women. The idea is to show Beyonce as strong, vulnerable, sensual, fun, flirtatious and maternal. It’s hard to see how a bikini and a pair of shorts can accomplish all that, but these are versatile outfits. Buyers should flock.
