Talk has been swirling around that Beyoncé lip synched the "'Star-Spangled Banner " for President Obama's second inauguration according to what ABC News was told Jan. 22. The 31-year-old pop star sang an inspiring rendition of the National Anthem for the 800,000 group. However, it was later explained by a Marine Corps Band spokesperson, that the band wasn't playing and Beyoncé wasn't actually singing.
"We all know Beyoncé can sing," Master Sgt. of the U.S. Marine Band Kristin duBois told ABC News Tuesday. "We all know the Marine Corps Band can play. We do not know why she decided to go with the pre-recorded music at the last minute."
DuBois later explained that it was Beyoncé's voice, but it was a pre-recorded version of the song that was heard by the people in Washington and by millions on television. She also stated that the band was not playing during the time Beyoncé was singing, but they were playing during the rest of the performances by Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor. The band was just asked not to play during the national anthem.
The singer appeared to have some sort of an audio issue at one point during the song when she pulled her earpiece out. DuBois admitted that she had no idea why Beyoncé took out the earpiece. According to reports, the earpiece wasn't really necessary anyway.
