On a daily basis, the Alachua County Commissioners have to make decisions that affect all of the residents. Currently, they are discussing whether to make an offer to buy the biomass plant. Before making a final decision, they have open forums to hear from residents, all the pros and cons for every issue that may arise.
Before making a final vote, they have to decide, if those individuals that have spoken out, have legitimate reasons or if their words are based on personal biases.
In marriage, couples must do the same thing, when they get advice from others. They must decide if the advice is a legitimate concern or one that is purely biased.
When seeking advice, they must be cautious who they turn to. There may be people that don't like one's spouse. When asking these individuals, “what should I do?”, they may not give an unbiased opinion.
In some cases, the people being asked for advice, may have a history of bad relationships. These individuals may give bad advice, because they are only thinking of their own situation.
At times, it may be beneficial to speak with someone about one's marital problems. However, most of the time, talking with the spouse is what needs to be done. Proper communication is the most difficult thing for some couples.
When talking to one's spouse, both parties must be well rested, in a good frame of mind, and they should be in a good mood (i.e. not angry or upset). Also, patience and understanding is mandatory for success.
When considering taking advice from others, remember, in marriage only two people take vows. So, those that are giving advice, have no investment in whether a marriage fails or succeeds.
So, if it can be avoided, don't seek advice from just any one. Life is too complicated already.
Why add to it, by talking to people who are Negative Neds?
