The name is a bit of a misnomer, especially for Americans. Beverly Hills by Carmen Belissa is entirely a Colombian company, with headquarters in Bogota, Colombia. But once the models walk the runway, the name makes sense.
Beverly Hills in every sense
Belissa Carmen Martinez's Goddess line of swimwear and beach accessories isn't just ritzy, it's glitzy. With diamante trims and mod styles, the image of the one percenters frequenting Rodeo Drive, driving their Ferraris and Porsches through Beverly Hills, wearing Louboutins and lunching with the who's who of Hollywood comes to mind. Paris Hilton, Kate Upton, the Ecchlestone girls and the other rich kids of Hollywood A-listers wouldn't be out of place in these pieces.
It's been five years since the designer from Barranquilla presented a collection at Colombia Moda, but in this case, absence makes the designs stronger.
Sex and Money
Every piece is designed to oozy sexuality and money. When pieces aren't trimmed with sparkling crystals, appliques in the shape of gold leaves are applied to gossamer thin fabrics. Fancy laces, golden embroidery, elaborate beading, sequins and other jewelry accents rounded out the glamorous collection.
Colombian Singer takes the runway
At several points during the show, Spanish singer, Nika Mills took to the stage, dressed in swimwear to serenade the audience with 90's pop hits as the models walked the runway. The response to both Nika Mills and the collection was wild applause. Evidence of Carmen Belissa's success is the crashing of the namesake website due to thousands of visitors over just the last 24 hours.
