Bev has bowled for as long as she can remember. She was about 11 or 12
When she started bowling in leagues. Bev is from Wauchula, Florida.
When she was really young, her grandmother owned the local 8 lane bowling center. Although she sold it before Bev became serious about bowling, her grandparents always took her bowling and bought her a new ball every year for her birthday. Her grandmother had only one rule, "Keep the ball out of the gutter!
Bowling has always been the sport that clicked with her, although she played softball when younger. She likes that bowling can be an individual as well as a team sport. Anybody can have fun bowling, but it takes work to become good at it.
She is also a big sports fan, interested in most spectator sports. She is an original season ticket holder of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and goes to all the USF football games, and she loves the Rays as well.
She moved here after graduating from Vincennes University in Vincennes,
Indiana with a degree in Bowling Lanes Management, where she also bowled on the college team. The two year program teaches you everything about the bowling center, including ball drilling, lane care, league development, and pinspotter mechanics.
After graduating, she returned to Florida and was hired by Bill Boje at Crossroads Bowl when it was on Tyrone Blvd and worked for him for 3 years in various locations in the area.
Her last position was manager of Brandon Lanes.
In 1986, he decided to lease out the pro shop at Crossroads Bowl (it had been run by the center), and that's how and where she got her start in the pro shop business. Bev's Pro Shop was born! She has been in the pro shop business in the St. Petersburg area ever since.
She went from Crossroads Bowl to AMF Kenneth City, to Sunshine Bowl, to Bowlers Outlet, and now to Sunrise Lanes.
She said it does not seem like it has been 28 years!
So even if you are ending your season or maybe you are joining a summer league, and want to try out something new, go by and visit Bev’s Pro Shop. Also check out Sunrise Lanes and join a summer league!!
