BETTER CHINATOWN SOCIETY HOSTS 13TH ANNUAL FIRECRACKER CEREMONY
Senator Kristine Gillibrand will kick off the Year of the Dragon in Chinatown, New York
Chinatown, New York -- January 19, 2012 – Better Chinatown Society, a
non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of New York’s
Chinatown will host its13th annual Lunar New Year Firecracker Ceremony
on Monday, January 23rd, 2012 at Sara Roosevelt Park, Chinatown, New
York from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.
This will be the largest Firecracker ceremony, with a stage size of
over 24 feet wide and 12 feet tall. We will have performers from the
‘All Star’ cultural performance school from Beijing, China dancing
away to a great new year.
“Senator Gillibrand appearance marks great recognition for the Chinese
Community and the Chinese cultural events and Holidays – something
that Better Chinatown Society has been striving for many years,” said
Steven Tin, Chairman of Better Chinatown Society. “Chinatown is a
large part of New York City, so it’s always great to have New York
City representatives to support these great events.”

Founded in 2001, Better Chinatown Society is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the improvement of New York's Chinatown. The society seeks to promote Chinese-American Culture and generate awareness of Chinatown by organizing special activities and events that bring the people of Chinatown community together while also attracting tourists and visitors. In addition to the Lunar New Year Parade & Firecracker Ceremony, the Better Chinatown Society also organizes the 1st China Day Autumn Moon Festival with supported from the Chinese Cultural Ministry sending one cultural troupe this year, which the last few years attracted over 500,000 spectators, and the Chinatown Independence Day Parade & Festival as well as numerous sports tournaments, and many special community social events.
The Better Chinatown Society has also created a Lunar New Year Celebration Committee which includes numerous community organization and leaders who serve as leaders and volunteers.
