Bette Midler blames feud with Lady Gaga on 'bad tweeting'

When Bette Midler saw Lady Gaga’s mermaid performance was garnering so much attention (although much of it was negative) Midler felt that she needed to come forward and let the world know that she had done the mermaid bit years back and that what Gaga was doing was not original.

Midler took to her twitter account after hearing about Gaga's wheelchair/mermaid performance to express her feelings about it.  Midler said;

“I'm not sure Lady Gaga knows that I've performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people - and many of them are still alive… Dear Lady Gaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar - it's because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7 - with ME performing it… Dear Lady Gaga I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980 - You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker t**s - mermaid's mine."

What is interesting about the feud is that if you ask Midler about it, she dismisses it as a lack of understanding of how Twitter works.  She said;

"We had a feud, which I loved. I'm not a good tweeter. I said a couple of things. I opened a can of worms. I wasn't irked at all! I thought it was hilarious. I was actually very flattered, and then we sort of put it to rest."

We are not exactly sure what the big deal was since many performers have recycled bits over the years and why Midler wanted to claim the mermaid bit after so many groups were angry about Gaga’s performance is really kind of a wonder anyway.
