Betsey Johnson: Get the 'He loves me not' look

During the pre-show for the Betsey Johnson fashion show, someone quipped to the Teen Vogue interviewer backstage that this show would conjure up thoughts of "Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction...on acid."  And he was right.

Well, he was half-right, anyway.  The Betsey Johnson Fall 2011 fashion show was divided into two parts: He Loves Me, which was all cheerful clothes bright colors, big smiles, and Betsey lookalikes, and He Loves Me Not, which was vampy, somewhat Gothic glamour--the latter was the "Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction...on acid" part.

For He Loves Me Not, the makeup was as dark and edgy as the clothing.  The models all looked more or less the same, each wearing a multitonal wig of black and gold--the cut and style of the hair was indeed very much Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.  (The hair almost matched the special nail polish Butter had whipped up for Betsey's show--a burnished gold with almost olive undertones.)  Each model had lush, red lips worthy of making an appearance in True Blood's Fangtasia club, and each model had glammy, seriously smoked-out eyes.

Black out your eyes.  Light hands, go home.  Eye makeup for this look is bold and in-your-face.  To get this smoldering and highly pigmented look, first reach for Urban Decay's The Black Palette, which features matte black, gorgeous pewter, and dark blue--all the colors that were used on these models' eyes.  But remember, the Betsey models had some shimmer to their eye makeup too, especially underneath their eyes--so you may also want to pick up a lighter, shimmery color like Vapor (a shimmery silver) to dust over some of the black on your lids and underneath your bottom lashes.

Get seriously red lips.  Kat Von D's Adora lipstick is as highly-pigmented as the lipstick that was on the Betsey models tonight--and it, too, has a satiny sheen.  This is a perfect lipstick for being vampy--and it has great staying power, too.

Give your skin a flawless finish.  Benefit's Some Kind-A Gorgeous is fantastic for creating a flawless complexion.  It's a light, oil-free product that evens out your skin--and now it comes in three shades (lite, medium, and deep).

Nail it!  The Butter nail polish I mentioned above isn't available yet, so in the meantime, this "Looks Like Rain, Dear" nail polish (a gold polish with large and small pieces of gold glitter) by OPI for Sephora is a great choice.  The OPI for Sephora nail polishes are long-lasting, and their glitter isn't too obnoxious to remove when you want to switch up the color on your nails.
