Bethesda Softworks, the people who brought us the Elder Scrolls franchise and Fallout 3, have announced that the next chapter in the Fallout universe, Fallout: New Vegas, will be available sometime in the autumn of 2010.
Official information about this project has been scarce since it was announced back in April of 2009 but today the people at Bethesda finally shed some light on their new project. Fallout: New Vegas will use the same engine as Fallout 3 so you can expect similar style and gameplay though there may be some changes. The game will follow after Fallout 3 but is not a direct sequel.
As the name implies, Fallout: New Vegas will take the post apocalyptic action to America's mid west. It should be interesting to see Bethesda's take on a retro-futuristic post apocalyptic Las Vegas, though if the teaser is accurate, it may be more intact than any other place left in the Fallout universe. Perhaps the term "What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" is taken literally in the future.
One note of interest that might be exciting for fans of the original Fallout games is that some of the people from Black Isle Studios, the studio responsible for Fallout 1 and 2 as well as developers of the canceled Fallout 3 project, "Van Buren", are responsible for producing Fallout: New Vegas.
Autumn is still far off so stay tuned for more information as it's released. If you're interested, GameStop is already taking preorders. The Mall of Louisiana location can be reached at (225) 761-4177.
