Bethenny Frankel, Ellen DeGeneres' second talk show protege, is premiering Monday September 9th for her first fall season. Bethenny gained a spot on the daytime airwaves after a stint on FOX during the Summer 2012 season that had much success.
Frankel is focusing on women and everything they seemingly would love to talk about from relationships to celebrities to beauty to food to kids. Bethenny's gold mine is in her format with potential for huge sponsors due to the types of products she is able to associate with her various segments. .
No one is really sure how to perfect the talk show format. Specialized shows focusing on one topic such as "The Chew" seem to completely flop in the ratings, with shows that focus more on the variety of life finding success.
Queen Latifah commented on her show on a Los Angeles radio station interview, saying that she wanted to "wait awhile" after Oprah's exit before coming back on the talk show circuit, but eluded to now being the time that a post Oprah host could find success. This fall, much like last year, new hosts will continue to try and talk the talk to find their way to daytime's reigning royalty.
People who are watching TV are probably not watching live television. While advertising pays salaries, no one wants to actually watch live television. With DVRs and Net Flix, there's barely a reason for commercials except for sports, and even then viewers are finding a way around them. Time will tell as the world of daytime continues to turn. Get "skinny" with Bethenny weekdays on FOX.
