The Bethenny Frankel divorce could cost a lot for the "Real Housewives" reality TV star. She announced she was divorcing Jason Hoppy right before the start of 2013, and even though she was reportedly "devastated," the hurting may continue beyond emotions and into her finances.
A report from US Magazine on Jan 2. talks about what's at stake for the reality TV star and entrepreneur. While Frankel has turned her fame from TV into a line of successful products, she now has a lot to lose when the financial settlement is determined. It was reported she sold a line of Skinnygirl margarita products valued at $100 million in 2011, and Forbes estimates she netted about $55 million from the middle of 2010 through the middle of 2011.
Frankel's products also include workout DVD's, Macy's shape wear line, snacks and cocktails, which are all part of the Skinnygirl brand. One website estimates that Frankel makes $25 million annually, and reported she was making $40,000 per episode of the reality show she starred in. This could have changed in more recent times, and the net worth may dip some, if Jason Hoppy's legal team does their best.
Frankel rose to fame for appearing on NBC's "The Apprentice" with Martha Stewart, as well as reality TV shows on Bravo, including "The Real Housewives of New York City," and "Bethenny Ever After." She also hosts her own syndicated celebrity and lifestyle talk show called "Bethenny" which Ellen DeGeneres is co-producer and creator of.
So is Bethenny in jeopardy of losing all of that hard-earned fame and fortune from reality TV and cocktails? The good news for Frankel is that she has that ever-so-powerful and helpful "marriage didn't work out" instrument in place: a pre-nup.
