Bethenny Frankel, former “The Real Housewives of New York” star, is reportedly devastated by her split from husband Jason Hoppy, PEOPLE magazine reported on Thursday, Jan. 3.
Frankel and Hoppy made the announcement of their split on Dec. 23, leaving fans to wonder what had gone wrong. Many who watched the pair work through some tough times over the past three years on the Bravo reality shows “Bethenny Getting Married?” and “Bethenny Ever After” thought that the couple were working out their differences, especially since Frankel was seeing a therapist to work through many issues she from her childhood and past relationships.
Frankel is notorious for cutting people who have wronged he out of her life. Bethenny has been estranged from her mother Bernadette for well over two decades, and had not spoken to father Bobby Frankel in years. Bethenny was at Bobby’s deathbed in November 2009, but the two never really reconciled.
Bethenny also cut good friend and costar Jill Zarin out of her life after the famous “Bethenny, we’re done” scenes played out on season three of “The Real Housewives of New York.” Zarin was allegedly jealous of Frankel’s success and told other cast members not to film with her.
A source told PEOPLE, “There was no one turning point that caused this [split]. They tried to make it work. It just got too hard to be husband and wife.”
Allegedly the couple argued over the past few years about everything, including the frequency of their visits to his parents’ home to birthday plans. Over the last year, Frankel, 42, a well-known workaholic, has even taken time off from her various businesses including her Skinny Girl empire, to focus on her marriage to Jason Hoppy. One source says that Bethenny found it hard to leave her work ethic at the office.
“With Bethenny, it was her way or the highway. If you a person who surrounds yourself with people telling you, ‘You are right, we will bend over backwards to make things happen for you,’ you will have a tough time in marriage. Marriage doesn’t work that way.”
The source told PEOPLE that both Jason and Bethenny are having difficultly moving forward separately.
Hoppy, 41, was recently seen out wearing his wedding ring. “The split has been tough,” a source close to the couple told PEOPLE. “You go into marriage thinking it’s going to be forever. When you realize it’s not, it’s really hard, especially when a child is involved.”
The source continued, “Bethenny is devastated,” and that a reconciliation between the couple is out of the question.
