Duquesne senior forward and Bethel High (Hampton, Va) graduate Ovie Soko garnered high praise on ESPN’s Sportscenter show last night. Soko earned the top spot in ESPN’s Top 10 Plays with a dunk off an off-the-backboard pass from teammate, Derrick Colter. The dunk came during a 3-on-1 fastbreak during the first half of Duquesne’s 87-81 win over Fordham. Soko led the team with a career-high 29 points in the victory.
Soko averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists during his senior season at Bethel High School before spending his first three collegiate seasons at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during his 88 career games at UAB before transferring to Duquesne in May 2012. Soko is currently leading Duquesne, averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in the team’s 13 games this season.
