BET Honors draws more than 2 million viewers

More than 2 million viewers tuned in when “The BET Honors” premiered Monday, February 24. The show that honors distinguished African Americans was up by 5% from last year. It also ranked as the No. 1 Monday telecast on BET Networks for the 2013-2014 season to date.

Wayne Brady hosted the show that honored the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, Motown Records founder and creator of the smash hit Motown The Musical, Berry Gordy, American Express CEO & Chairman, Ken Chenault, visual artist, Carrie Mae Weems and entertainment trailblazer, Ice Cube.

Stand out performances include Karen Clark Sheard singing "Amazing Grace" (watch her performance here)and Jennifer Hudson doing a medley of Aretha Franklin's songs in her honor. Smokey Robinson sang "Tears of A Clown" and also spoke and sung of the friendship that he and Berry Gordy enjoyed over the years, beginning at Motown. Aretha Franklin sang "Change Is 'Gon Come' in honor of Nelson Mandela. Mariah Carey, Janelle Monae and Tamar Braxton also gave great performances.

According to, according to Omniture Site Catalyst, page views to “The BET Honors” content doubled night of premiere, resulting in 150% YOY increase in “The BET Honors” content consumption over the 2-day period. On social media, tweets during the telecast increased 11% over last year with #BETHonors being a top trending topic in the US during its telecast.

“The BET Honors” will re-air on these dates:
• Thursday, February 27 at 8 p.m,
• Saturday, March 1 at 10 pm
• Monday, March 3 at 10 p.m.

“BET Honors” will premiere internationally on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 9:00 pm GMT (check local listings).
