BET Hip Hop Awards 2011: Nominations, performers, honorees and cyphers (Photos)

Leading up to the premiere of Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross’ new sitcom “Reed Between the Lines,” BET will air two hours worth of the Hip Hop Awards.  And while last year’s show had a distinct Dirty South flavor (and also managed to honor 2 Live Crew), this year’s show has a completely different focus and a brand new host.

Story: Can Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross save BET?

This time, Mike Epps hosts the BET Hip Hop Awards 2011, and it looks like Lil’ Wayne will be getting tons of face time this year.  The guy has earned 18 nominations this year, so expect to see him on the stage a lot.

The show will also pay homage to LL Cool J, giving the rapper/actor the “I Am Hip Hop” award for his contributions to rap music over the past two decades.

As for the performers, here’s who you can expect to see rock the mic on stage: Big Sean, Lupe Fiasco, Wale, Roscoe Dash, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, DMX, Heavy D, T.I., and Wiz Khalifa.

One of the memorable parts of the BET Hip Hop Awards are the cyphers.  To the left, check out the Warm Up Cypher, which features the legendary DJ Premier manning the beats while fresh-faced MCs Gilbere Forte, Chris Sutton (Sprite’s Hot 16 Winner), XV and Jay Rock try to out-rap each other.

You can also check out the list of BET Hip Hip Awards nominations (as well as my bolded guesses as to who will win) below.
