Hundreds gathered in eager anticipation. The sun beamed down with relentless heat. However, the unwavering sun did not deter those in attendance. They were here to enjoy a free concert outside at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall Promenade.
BET and AEG partnered with Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza to present "The Road to the BET Experience." This weekly Saturday concert series featured prominent R&B/Pop artists who will make their final appearance, along with many others, this upcoming weekend at the 2014 BET Experience.
“We’re thrilled to expand the impact of the BET Experience at L.A. Live to include a weekly concert series at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza,” stated Paxton Baker, EVP and General Manager of Centric. Baker, who is the BET executive in charge of the BET Experience, was also seen throughout the concert’s series.
The Road to the BET Experience began May 31st and concluded this past Saturday, June 21st. Among those who performed were “American Idol” winner Candice Glover, Eric Benet, Marsha Ambrosuis, Day 26, Eric Bellinger, Adrian Marcel, RaVaughn, Dondria and Mila J.
This year’s BET Experience opens with soulful crooners Maxwell and Jill Scott at the Staples Center, followed by Future and DJ Khaled at Club Nokia.
On Saturday, hip-hop artists take the stage as Outkast headlines the show, and Rick Ross, ASAP Rocky, K. Michelle, Ty Dolla Sign and August Alsina perform at the Staples Center. The Roots, Warren G, Redman, Method Man and Doug E. Fresh perform later that evening at Club Nokia.
The annual BET Awards, hosted by Chris Rock, will air on Sunday at 5:00 PM. Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, and Jennifer Hudson are scheduled to conclude the music festival at the Staples Center.
To get the most out the BET Experience purchase tickets for the Staples Center and Club Nokia concerts. Single day Staples Center tickets are priced between $59.50 and $149.50. The three-day Staples Center packages range from $199 to $399. Tickets for Club Nokia are $25.00 to $79.50.
Alongside the major events this weekend, the fan fest provides an opportunity to watch the Sprite Celebrity Basketball Game and Slam Dunk Contest. As well, the expo showcases the BETX Dance Competition, celebrity meet and greets, plug-in concerts, and professional panels. The fan fest is free and open to the public.
