BET Awards: Chris Brown gives tearful tribute to Michael Jackson at BET Awards [Photos + Video]

Chris Brown puts on an emotional tribute to the late Michael Jacksonat the 2010 BET Awards.

The BET Awards was packed with many memorable performances but it was a surprise performance from Chris Brown that took the cake.

The singer, who was rumored to have paid tribute to the “King of Pop” last year but was later axed from the roster, finally took to the stage Sunday night (June 27) to finally pay tribute to his idol.

Chris Brown performed a medley of Michael Jackson songs including “Smooth Criminal” and “Billie Jean.”

Although his dancing mirrored that of Michael Jackson perfectly, it was his emotional breakdown later on in the performance that left people in awe.

While Chris Brown was performing Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror”, the singer sobbed through the entire song later leaving the stage in tears and into the arms of Jermaine Jackson.

The breakdown is understandable as Chris Brown has been at the center of backlash following the altercation with ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Rihanna, however, was not present at the BET Awards this year.

View the video of the full performance below.

What are your thoughts? Did you like the performance? Do you think this will help selvage his career.

I don't believe it had anything to do with a career move, he was emotional and showed his feelings for his idol. I didn't hear not one person make a comment when Stevie Wonder paid a tribute to MJ on TV and cried... So Stevie can cry and Chris can't!!!

    Bullshit!

This was a chance for Chris Brown to finally break down and cry and show his fans and people that he actually has an heart and isn't a cold selfish bitch.

I'm not and will never be a fan of his. He was using Michael to redeem himself and I don't support it. You didn't need a Michael Jackson tribute. Why? BEcause your a woman beater and I do highly doubt Mike supports any woman beaters since he was beat himself as a child.

With that said, He could have did a YouTube Video for him. He didn't need a stage as huge as BET to it. I personally don't support BET any longer because we as black people have opened our arms to Chris Brown and shunned Rihanna away. I don't and will not every agree with that and I wish Chris Brown no luck in music.

First of all, let me say that I don't like Chris Brown at all. However, I think that he was focused on his tribute (probably sincere), and he turns out to be so talented, that it was good and the crowd was getting wild. I don't think even HE expected that. Not liking him, even I didn't expect him to be so talented. BUT... all of the sudden, while he was about to start singing "Man in the Mirror", he just got overwhelmed. The song probably even made him realize that they were admiring Michael, and him rendering Michael, but accepting his rendition and that this probably should lead him to "looking in the mirror". He couldn't take it! I hope he comes to grips with what he felt and becomes a better person...

May God forgive those people who think it is their place to not "forgive" Chris Brown. He who is without sin cast the first stone. See, didn't think so. It's not our place to forgive and forget. We can never forget. No, the Black community has not shunned Rihanna. She is still a No.1 selling artist among the Black community. Most people who are Rihanna fans were also Chris fans so you can't make generalizations about an entire racial community. However, whether you heed my words or not, all we, as humans, can do is look at ourselves in the mirror before we condemn another person. There are celebrities who have committed crimes far worse and are still making movies, music, and playing sports. I refuse to believe America is suddenly so stuck on a celebrity's forgiveness factor.

He did great! We hope the world would just get over it. Rihanna has gotten every sympathetic squeeze possible out of all this, and everyone deserves forgiveness. He's an awesome singer and a great dancer!

Remember there is always two side to a store and we only heared Rihanna side. Only Chris and Rihanna know exactley what happen in the car that night. No one is perfect and we all make mistake and we learn as we grow.. so to all the Chris Brown heater leave him the Hell ALONE.

  • Maria 1 year ago

oops sorry to the mis spelling of haters!! However nobody could done a better tribute for Michael Jackson than Chris Brown!!

  • Sbb 1 year ago

One thing I have not seen in all the coverage of personal matter is that the two of them Chris and Rihanna are young. Too young to handle a an intense relationship under the scutiny of the media. It takes maturity to learn to disagree with respect for each other and to cherish each other's differences and the strength those differences bring to a relationship. How about leaving their personal lives alone and give them a chance to grow up!

  • selina 1 year ago

I agree with sbb on the relationship being young. I thought that Chris Brown gave the performance of his life and to chose "Man in the Mirror" is a total reflection of who he is and who he has become. It took alot of guts to get up there and perform. I think he deserves a 2nd chance.
