Kyle Idleman, bestselling author and teaching pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, recently released his latest book, AHA: The Moment That God Changes Everything from David C. Cook. The book chronicles some of the “aha!” moments in our lives when a sudden revelation surprises us with insight and brings about lasting change.

The launch of his book debuted on Wednesday, March 5, with a free live webcast event, the “AHA Experience,” which took place at Southeast’s Blankenbaker Campus. The evening featured teaching by Idleman and worship from Matt Bayless. The night also included a special message via video from Alan Robertson, of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” who shared his own “AHA” moment with the crowd.

About 3,500 were in attendance at the church for the event. The live event was also streamed online, worldwide. Guests from 37 states and 15 countries tuned into the simulcast. Southeast Christian Church is reportedly the fourth largest church in America. Typically, there are over 22,000 attendees on a weekend.

“From the beginning, this message was really based on stories that I’ve had other people tell me, and listening to thousands of testimonies from people who have had these God moments in their lives,” said Kyle Idleman. “In some ways, there’s a lot of confidence in how God works, because you’ve heard these stories so many times. There’s this awakening, the honesty, and action that it works.”

AHA reveals how three key elements – Awakening, Honesty and Action –
can deepen our faith and impact our spiritual lives long-term, Idleman explained.

Packed with real-life examples and Biblical insight, AHA includes stories from people, who have tried to bring about change in various areas of their lives and have ended up feeling discouraged or defeated. In the book, Idleman recognizes that the initial awakening can serve as a dramatic realization, or a rude awakening that arises out of a difficult circumstance or as a deserved consequence.

“I love witnessing AHA, I see it almost every weekend at the church where I serve. I listen to people as they tell about the spiritual awakening they have experienced. In that moment, there is a beautiful collision. At just the right time, a person’s life collides with God’s Word and everything changes,” Idleman said. “It’s been fun to see that ‘AHA’ about AHA click with people as they hear it.”

Awakening to the reality of our true spiritual condition, we see ourselves and our need for a Savior with renewed honesty. This realization leads to action, obeying God's commands and following the example set by Christ. As we see in the transformation of the Prodigal Son, the result is a life-changing, destiny-altering collision—an AHA moment that leads us home to our loving Father, he said.

“If there’s any parable or story we should look to, it’s the one that Jesus tells. I love it because it’s His words and that’s where the real power is,” Idleman said. “When I was reading the story of the parable, I was reading it through this lens of transformation and change.”

As part of this sanctification process, there should never be a time as a Christian, where you are not experiencing conviction, or awakening, or you’re not repenting, having honesty, or taking action. That’s how we grow spiritually, it’s a continual cycle, he said.

“I never get tired of experiencing how you can preach the same passage for 20 years, then you study it, meditate on it, and God shows you something new that you never noticed before. That’s the power of God’s Word,” he expressed. “I think we intentionally need to get to the place where we study God’s Word as a mirror. I also think we have to pray for God to open our eyes.”

Often, God is trying to get our attention, but He doesn’t compete with all of the other voices, he said.

The book is divided into three parts: Part 1: Sudden Awakening; Part 2: Brutal Honesty and Part 3: Immediate Action. Chapter titles include “The Distant Country,” “Coming to Your Senses,” “A Desperate Moment,” “A Startling Realization,” and nine more. There’s also an outline of study questions for each chapter included at the back of the book.

In addition to the book, Idleman has partnered with City on a Hill (www.cityonahillproductions.com) to release a new AHA curriculum/Bible study series that focuses on God Moments. The series includes a Small Group Study, Pastor’s Kit, Participant’s Guide and AHA The Movie.

Idleman has also authored the bestselling book, Not a Fan, as well as, the recently released Gods at War. He is the presenter of the award-winning video curriculum “H2O: A Journey of Faith,” “Gods at War,” “The Easter Experience,” and the “Not a Fan” DVD teaching series.
