The world premiere stage adaptation of Christopher Paul Curtis’s book Mr. Chickee's Funny Money is slated to open January 18 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts on 1016 N. Dearborn in Chicago.
Produced by Chicago Children's Theatre, the all-new, rhythm and blues family play will feature music and lyrics by Motown’s Lamont Dozier and his son, co-music writer/lyricist Paris Dozier with book by David Ingber.
Under direction by Derrick Sanders with musical supervision by Brian Usifer, the production includes the work of Courtney O'Neill (scenic design), Rebecca Jeffords (lighting design), Ray Nardelli (sound), Christine Pascual (costume design), Kevin Iega Jeff (choreography), Margaret Goddard-Knop (properties design), and Sam Deutsch (puppet design).
In addition to his bestselling young adult book Mr. Chickee's Funny Money, the author has penned Bud, Not Buddy, the Newbery Award-winning book which spawned Chicago Children's Theatre's 2013 world premiere hit of the same name.
