The upcoming Cinco de Mayo holiday celebrates Mexican heritage and culture, and the spicy cuisine that the region has to offer – including tacos, a classic on-the-go meal.

Pick the “Car-Neato” taco with pulled pork and salsa verde, or the “Ya Mon” with grilled jerk fish and pineapple relish. Or, choose vegetarian options like the “Garlic Bomb” with sautéed mushrooms, garlic aïoli and more. There are dairy-free selections, too.

Mondo Taco offerings feature sustainable seafood, grass-fed beef, and free-range, hormone-free chicken. Tacos may be served in a choice of homemade corn tortilla, gluten-free tortilla, or “Dino-style” in a cabbage leaf. Or, choose any taco as a wrap or bowl.

This cozy gem – known for its seafood tacos – sits steps away from Providence Saint John’s Health Center.

Patrons have a choice of tacos, tostadas or cocteles with fillings like scallop and shrimp. Not a seafood fan? Choose an alternative filling like tofu. Offerings can be made gluten-free upon request.

Top off the meal with a traditional agua fresca beverage.

Frida Tacos
This bustling stand at the Brentwood Country Mart is one of multiple locations, and offers a menu of traditional Mexican cuisine specialties anchored by taco favorites.

Pick soft or crispy tacos, or even a low-carb taco option served in a lettuce cup. Savor a number of mouth-watering choices like the pollo con mole (chicken with chile-chocolate sauce), tacos de camaron (sautéed shrimp), or vegan vegetales (sautéed asparagus, zucchini, carrots and black beans). Can’t decide? Try a five-taco tasting with a choice of fillings.

For a more high-end taco experience, visit this popular restaurant at the Shore Hotel. Sit inside or outside to enjoy the Ocean Avenue view.

Choose from a range of offerings here, along with headliners like Maine lobster tacos. Other taco options include steak with chili sauce, shrimp with pumpkin pesto, and veggie with roasted corn, chanterelles and more. Any taco is also available as a “Flaco Taco” (in a lettuce cup).
