Whether you’re a student, working professional, mom or beyond, it’s often challenging to eat well fast. This is true even in and around Santa Monica - a city known for its plethora of excellent dining and culinary options.
Busy lives in a busy city can make it hard to focus on finding, selecting and using healthy, fresh, seasonal, local and organic ingredients for one’s meal – quickly and affordably.
Those meals are out there, just waiting to be explored and made.
First up, because it’s National Pizza Month - and who doesn’t love a slice or two on the run – here are a few favorite and newly-discovered local places (including a soon-to-expand Westwood spot) to fall in pizza love and mangiare bene in movimento - to eat well on-the-go!
The Urban Oven Truck
Chef Scott Tremonti brings a wood-fueled oven, seasonal ingredients and artisanal favorites to his mobile pizza and catering enterprise. Select from traditional, specialty and signature pizza offerings like prosciutto and grape with fontina cheese, and potato leek with gruyère. Find these personal-size pizzas at the truck’s frequent stops around town.

Grey Block Pizza
From the creator of (and formerly a location of) neighborhood favorite Abbot’s Pizza, one can find everything here from a salad pizza and a cheeseless pizza with in-season vegetables, to selections with tequila-lime marinated chicken and more. Order a slice or a whole pie to go; online ordering is available.

The mid-city Santa Monica location of the popular, natural and organic food store chain has a pizzeria with a menu of hearth-fired pizza selections, including vegan and gluten-free options. Enjoy offerings such as portabella mushroom or pesto with roasted tomato. Grab a slice or a made-while-you-wait whole pie.

800 Degrees has become a Westwood favorite, but a larger location in Santa Monica is opening soon. Their to-go outpost - like the main sit-down restaurant - offers personal-size, Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in a wood-burning oven. Choose from classic and specialty selections made with locally-made fresh mozzarella, butternut squash, fresh clams and more. The main restaurant also has a full build-your-own pizza option. Online ordering is available.
