If we aren’t careful, our kitchens can be quickly overrun by clutter. In most households, the kitchen is the hub of family life, collecting paperwork and ‘stuff’ from each day. Cabinets become stuffed with gadgets we had to have two years ago, but have long forgotten. Countertops are piled with small ‘must-have’ appliances. And we have more cooking accessories than we’ll use in a lifetime. It’s time to take back control!
First thing is first. It’s time to be honest and admit you’re never going to use that fondue set. And remember that No-Carb Cookbook you’ve held onto, that you’ve never even opened? It’s time to get rid of it. The absolute first step in controlling clutter is to throw out what you don’t use. Better yet, set it aside to donate or sale it at a yard sale.
Once you’ve gotten rid of all the excess ‘junk’, organize what you have left. Here are some of the best products for clutter control in the kitchen. Some products you may even already have at home!
- Appliance garage – Cut back on countertop clutter in the kitchen with an appliance garage. Designed to match your kitchen cabinetry, these handy devices sit in the space between the countertop and wall cabinet. They’re affordable, durable, and allow you to store small appliances, cookbooks, paperwork, bread, and other items, conveniently out of sight.
- Desk or silverware organizers – These handy organizers are great for sorting out that infamous junk drawer that’s in every kitchen. Organize twist ties, bottle openers, candles, batteries, and most other small objects in one neat place.
- Sink tilt trays – Keep sponges, scouring pads, drain stoppers, bar soap, and more hidden out of sight inside a sink tray. These products make smart use of that empty drawer area beneath the kitchen sink. Made of either stainless steel or heavy duty plastic, you'll be utilizing cabinet space you had before with a sink tray.
- Glass jars – Keep spices, dry pastas, drink mixes, coffee and tea bags, sugar, flour, and so much more, organized in small glass mason jars. The jars keep everything organized, and because you can see through them, you’ll always know exactly what you have on hand.
- Shoe organizer – Over-the-door shoe organizers are great to use in the kitchen, too. Hang them in the pantry to store spice packets, cooking utensils, napkins, and so on. Or, use them to store cleaning supplies.
- Over the sink shelf – Maximize space around the kitchen sink with an elevated shelf. Use this area for small cookbooks, soaps and lotions, and other objects.
