Big games mean big-time celebration. For reasons known only to their multitudes of fans, every game in which Notre Dame plays is a biggie. This must be true since the Fighting Irish are on national television more than Ryan Seacrest. Tonight's BCS Championship is as big as they come, and if you need an excuse to go out to an Irish pub, this is it.
San Diego is blessed with it's share of spectacular pubs, and you may take your pick of Notre Dame friendly venues to catch the game. Fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide are welcome to go anywhere they like, but as we can't believe Nick Saban can be as successful as he is and still be playing within the rules, this article is dedicated to the Irish.
McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon, located on 5th Avenue, downtown, stands out this evening on the basis of some clever promotion. McFadden's patrons may enjoy $3 Domestic Drafts during the game, and every time Notre Dame scores, be it touchdown, field goal or safety, one can purchase a $3 Car Bomb.
Car Bombs are delicious, and we forget how much they retail for at McFadden's (because they are that good), but three bucks is a steal. You will pull for lots of scoring. The saloon is located conveniently close to the trolley, and if you assure the bartenders you aren't driving, perhaps you can convince them that an extra point counts as an additional score.
McFadden's also supports Team in Training's Melanie Gilbert, helping her raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Friday, January 11. At last check, not a single Alabama bar has gotten behind Melanie, or the cause. As runners and concerned citizens we think that is just shameful.
