Best Of SXSWi: meet disruptive CEOs

You couldn't make it to South By Southwest? Examiner.com is rounding up the best of the 2013 Interactive festival for you. After a chat with the creative director of #FEED powered by Twitter, we caught up in Austin with two innovative tech companies that help creative professionals achieve their dreams, Shutterstock and Indiegogo.

SXSW is all about serendipity, and we happened to meet both founders on the same day. They both disrupted an industry by identifying a problem they faced themselves, be it funding a passion project, or finding high quality images. Now both Shutterstock and Indiegogo are paving the way to empower creative professionals.

Shutterstock is a leader in stock photography, and a global, two-sided marketplace for images, illustrations and videos for creative professionals. The company went IPO in October 2012, raising an impressive $76.5 million at its debut. The founder, Jon Oringer, travelled to Austin for SXSW to shed light on the New York tech scene at the event Made in NY: Austin.

He explains in the video below how the IPO affected (or not) the company, why New York is becoming the place to be for entrepreneurs, and how Shutterstock is taking advantage of the increasing quality of the cameras we use on our mobile devices to increase the demand for his service.

Indiegogo, one of the biggest crowdfunding platform out there, is expanding its model globally to countries like France, Canada and Germany, allowing anyone to raise funds for a project. The company is big on indie films, and made the trip to SXSW for movies such as audience favorite Zero Charisma, and to talk about how the crowd funding industry can empower anyone to achieve their dreams (Go Fund Yourself).

Check out this video interview for a fun encounter with Slava Rubin, co-founder & CEO.
