Best of Porsche GT3 rally

Porsche has a rich racing heritage, which surprisingly includes rallycross. Not many people know that the Porsche GT3 is used on tarmac and gravel rallies. The extremely well balanced chassis combined with a horizontally opposed, boxer engine makes for a very nimble and agile rally vehicle. The reason you don't see much of the Porsche GT3 vehicles used for rally is the initial cost.

The most common rally cars are cheap entry level sedans and coupes that have a 2.0 liter or smaller engine. This keeps their class low enough for average folks to rally and enjoy the spirit without investing hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Porsche GT3 rally is reserved for enthusiast with deep pockets. This rare footage below shows just how well the Porsche GT3 handles during a rally. Hairpin corners are slightly easier to navigate thanks to rear wheel drive.

All-wheel drive contestants typically have to power slide around these corners, where the Porsche GT3 can just torque through them. Hitting the gas at the right spot, the rear end easily slides out to point the nose in the correct trajectory. It may be rare, but Porsche is definitely a rally contender. Enjoy the rare chance to see a Porsche GT3 tearing down a gravel road and sliding through debris, you'll only see it in rallycross; there isn't many if any private owners out there willing to take their Porsche to the limits!
