Out of all the MARTA stations downtown, this one is by far the most vibrant and active. Located below Peachtree Center mall and offices, the station provides access to many restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions and even parades. See below for some of the highlights.
Hotels
Whether you are staying at the Westin hotel or not, you can ride up the glass elevator to the top of the building for a bird's eye view of the city. Enjoy the scenery from a bar, restaurant or viewing area. You'll find the Westin on Peachtree Street, the same street as the station. Also on Peachtree Street nearby is the Ritz-Carlton with a Southern restaurant overlooking the street, Ellis Hotel also with terrace dining, the Hyatt Regency and the Residence Inn Downtown Atlanta, which is the most affordable option of the five hotels. See all hotel listings and directions here.
Parades
Dragon*Con takes place every Labor Day weekend all around the station in area hotels and features a costumed parade on Peachtree Street. This station also provides access to the St. Patrick's Day parade and Christmas parade.
Museums
This station is closest to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola and the Imagine It! Children's Museum. All three destinations are next to each other and Centennial Olympic Park, making it even easier to see multiple attractions on one MARTA trip. Take the Harris Street exit off the train platform and follow the signs to Peachtree Street West. At street level, turn left and then left again at the first intersection, Baker Street. All attractions are three blocks down.
The Tabernacle
A unique concert facility, the Tabernacle was once a large Baptist church. It provides an intimate setting for shows, including some big-name musicians. See walking directions here.
Meehan's Irish Pub
For a beer or a casual spot to get a bite, Meehan's is a short walk away from the station. On Friday's you can listen to live music. Take the Harris Street exit off the train platform and follow the signs to Peachtree Street West. At street level, turn right and walk about a block.
Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint
A few doors down from Meehan's is Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint where you can get some soul food and listen to live jazz.
Hard Rock Cafe
If you are a tourist that needs your Hard Rock collectible, don't miss the Hard Rock Cafe. Take the Harris Street exit off the train platform then follow the signs to Peachtree Street East. Turn right at street level and the restaurant will be on the next corner.
Hsu's
This long-standing Chinese restaurant has been visited by a number of celebrities, and their photographs are posted on the walls. Fast lunch specials are available for those on a limited work break. Take the Harris Street exit off the train platform and follow the signs to Peachtree Street East. Turn left at street level and left again on Andrew Young International Blvd. The restaurant is on the next corner.
Trader Vic's
A longer walk away, Trader Vic's is a tiki bar/restaurant in the basement of the Hilton hotel and a local favorite. If you need to get away to the tropics, just head here. Drink specials and live music typically on Thursdays. Take the Harris Street/Peachtree Street East exit out of the station and turn right at street level on Peachtree Street and right again on Harris Street/John Portman Blvd. The venue is about two blocks down on the left.
Central Library
Atlanta's central public library is just across the street from one of the station's exits. Check out books, music, movies and more. Take the Ellis Street exit off the train platform and keep to the right after going through the fare gates. Go up the escalator marked Public Library. At street level, just walk straight ahead to reach the library.
Caribou Coffee/Starbucks
If you need caffeine and/or a break from Starbucks, Caribou coffee is right above the station in the Peachtree Center Mall. There is a Starbucks across the street as well.
CVS
Just above the station is also a CVS Pharmacy if you need to get any provisions or pick up a prescription.
BodyPlex
If you are looking for a place to work out, BodyPlex is another venue just above the MARTA station. Take the Harris Street/Peachtree Street East exits out of the station and turn left at street level.
