The Ashby MARTA station is one to watch. Located in a historic part of Atlanta, the station is in walking distance to restaurants, apartments, Washington Park, Lionel Hampton Trail and the BeltLine Westside Trail. Here's a closer look at the top destinations nearby.

Washington Park
Many people aren't aware that one of Atlanta's large city parks is in walking distance from the Ashby station. Completed in 1928, it was the first park created for Atlanta's African American community. Today it features a large indoor pool and tennis center along with playgrounds and greenspace.

Lionel Hampton Trail
Running alongside Washington Park is the Lionel Hampton Trial, also known as the PATH Westside Trail. Mosley Park and Anderson Park are also connected to the path, which is about seven miles long.

BeltLine Westside Trail
Still in its natural state, the BeltLine Westside Trail is currently a wooded nature path. Three miles are under construction -- with lights and a paved path part of the plans, with room for future transit. The trail is located at the far end of Washington Park off of Lena Street.

Johnny M's Pizza Bistro
The local pizza place, Johnny M's has many lounge spaces including a rooftop with a view of downtown Atlanta. Turn left on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. after exiting the station and turn left again at the first intersection on to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Busy Bee Cafe
A short walk down the street from Johnny M's, Busy Bee Cafe has been cooking up some serious southern comfort food since 1947. Choose from goodies such as fried chicken and fish, ribs, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole and peach pie.

Walmart
Across from the Busy Bee Cafe you'll also find the closest Walmart to MARTA. The supercenter is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Clark Atlanta University
One of Atlanta's historic black colleges, the Clark Atlanta University campus is less than a 15-minute walk away from the MARTA station. Catch a football game at Panther Stadium or walk the grounds (view the campus map).
