Best new training tool of 2010 - The Laughing Leash

The Laughing Leash ...

... eliminates the problem of getting tangled up in leashes.

In a relaxed state it doesn't even touch the ground ...

... and it gently moves with your dog.

This leash really stretches - up to six full feet!

The Laughing Leash is a totally new concept in leash design. This innovative leash is super light-weight and although it stretches to the six foot length necessary when walking small breed dogs and puppies, it scrunches back to about 2 1/2 - 3 feet when relaxed. The springiness is gentle - it doesn't reel your dog in - it moves with your dog.

The mission of the leash's developers was to eliminate dragging leashes that get wrapped around the dog's and the dog's owner's legs, or tangled up with another dog's leash. They achieved their goal and solved that pesky problem once and for all!

The Laughing Leash is stress-free on the dog's neck, making a dog walk comfortable and pleasant for the dog. Puppies in particular will quickly learn to enjoy walking on a leash. Who hasn't experienced the puppy who freezes in fear and refuses to move when first put on a leash? This leash also makes training recall a breeze.

When designing the Laughing Leash they didn't forget about the person at the other end either. The leash's texture is absolutely amazing! It's cushy and soft, even when the dog is pulling. Some people may even walk their dogs more often just to enjoy the luxurious feeling of this beautiful leash. Clicker trainers will love being able to hold the clicker and leash comfortably in the same hand.

The leash comes in two styles - the Extra Small has a less taut inner coil and smaller snaphook, and Small/Medium has a tauter inner coil and regular sized snap hook.

Available in an incredible assortment of fun fabrics, even folks with half a dozen dogs can get a special leash to match the color, hair-coat and personality of each individual pup.

Current patterns offered include:

  • Black faux suede
  • Red faux suede
  • Taupe faux suede
  • Leopard print
  • Periwinkle fuzzy
  • Pink fuzzy
  • Baby blue with skulls

At $25 the cost is well-worth the value you're getting with this fashionable, functional, high-quality leash. This is the last leash you'll ever buy!

Does the dog feel the pull as the leash stretches I wonder?

  • Eve 2 years ago

The XS is so light and gentle - I really doubt they feel much at all. The S/M has a stronger, tighter spring in it that they probably feel to a certain degree, but I don't think it's unpleasant, and definitely not at all painful. From observing my own dogs, dogs have very strong necks.

Eve, were you able to find out anything about wear and tear and/or the recommended 'load' or animal weight limit recommended for these leads? Here in CNY, where it really did snow on Mother's Day, my leads are in wet weather a lot...not exactly Southern California training conditions. I've still got some never-die, saddle-soaped harness leather leads. But a few years ago, I made the switch to British Slip leads and climbing rope leads for daily use. Wonder if they'd let me test one under CNY's unforgiving hazardous weather conditions. <grin>

Tracy: that was my concern when this was first described to me as well, but when I saw it in person, and now that I have a couple and use them every day, that ceased to be a worry. This isn't like a bungee leash or something that has a high degree of tension and might be meant to absorb shock or something...it really has only enough tension to let itself gently contract if nothing is pulling on it.

In other words I don't think even a very small dog would feel any difference between one of these and a "normal" leash. What tension there is just keeps the leash up off the ground and out of your dog's legs.

Great questions, Pat! I’m co-creator of the Laughing Leash. At Laughing My Tail Off, we have always kept weatherability in mind. Some of our earliest testers were in Buffalo, where winter weather couldn’t be worse! We receive tons of feedback from happy customers who have used the Laughing Leash in challenging weather for well over a year. All report that their Laughing Leash is weathering very well: they say the leash doesn’t get muddy because it stays off the ground; they love that if it does get dirty they can wash their Laughing Leash in the washing machine and it comes out looking new.

The Laughing Leash comes in two tension strengths: we have customers who use the small/medium Laughing Leash successfully on dogs up to 100 lbs, though we generally recommend it for use on dogs up to 75 lbs. The extra-small Laughing Leash is ideal for dogs up to 15 lbs.

Interesting product idea and the fuzzy ones are quite cute. What happens when you need the leash to be shorter, as in when you need your dog to be close to you when passing another person? I would normally just hold the 6 ft leash close to the dog so can this be done with this leash?

  • Sarah 2 years ago

Thanks for asking, April! This is Sarah, co-creator of the Laughing Leash. Just as you would draw your dog closer to you by grabbing the leash closer to the base, you can do the same with our 6 foot Laughing Leash. With my own puppy, sometimes in close quarters as you describe, I will temporarily hold the Laughing Leash low so that my puppy has a 2 foot range. Once you release your hold, the Laughing Leash will fall slack yet continue to stay off the ground and away from your dog’s legs!

Please feel free to reach out to us directly at info@laughingmytailoff.com for more information.

    Thanks!
