Got milk? Well, no, because I'm one of the many who suffer from lactose intolerance. I don't miss milk, though, ever since I discovered the tasty world of milk substitutes. The challenge for those who are allergic to milk or are vegan: Separating the fabulously flavored beverages from the icky ones that taste like chalk (blugh). We've done the taste testing for you to unveil the delicious winners:
- For almond milks, we love Silk Pure Almondmilk Vanilla, which makes a dream team when poured over cereal in the morning. Chocolate lovers will go wild for Silk Pure Almondmilk Dark Chocolate, which is fabulous added to hot cocoa.
- Soy milks vary dramatically in choice. For creaminess, we like Soy Dream Enriched Soymilk, with seven grams of protein per serving. Want chocolate flavored soy milk? Try Pacific Natural Foods Enriched Soymilk in chocolate. And for something different, try ZenSoy Soy-On-The-Go Soymilk, Cappuccino flavor.
- Rice is nice - but rice milk is better! Our favorite: Good Karma Organic Wholegrain Ricemilk.
- Mixed nut milks sound like a peculiar concoction. But when we tasted Dream Blends (Almond, Cashew and Hazelnut Drink) Original Unsweetened milk, we changed "peculiar" to "penultimate!" And for the perfect choice for dieters, try Blue Diamond unsweetened almond milk.
