Fall 2013 makeup trends are designed to inspire creativity and reflect a unique sense of style for all. Trends range from fresh-faced matte skin demonstrated on the runways of Valentino to the avant garde creation of sparkling lashes from Chanel MUA, Peter Philips. Which of the top trends listed below will you add to your fall beauty routine?
Modernized Cat Eye
The cat eye is a staple in my beauty routine and one I highly recommend to create a more youthful look. Lining the top lash line creates the illusion of thicker lashes with the uptick on the outer corners drawing the eye upward. The cat eye is modernized for fall 2013 with Lavin, Anna Sui, Rag & Bone, Christian Dior, Badgley Mischka and others placing their own creative twist to this beloved beauty trend. The unfinished or blurred lip was another popular trend on the fall runways demonstrated by models at Marni, Christian Dior, Prada and Gucci. Shades varied from hot pink to crimson with color concentrated at the center of the lip. Pat McGrath created the matte crimson look for Prada models by outlining lips with a red lip pencil before filling with a combination of lip colors. Concentrating on the center of the lips, the custom shade was applied with a fan brush then blotted off with a tissue. As the models ate and drank before the show the look was perfected.
A demi matte or matte finish creates the illusion of flawless skin and is preferred for HD. Matte is the preferred finish for younger, oily skin but can be unflattering to women with drier, more mature skin. To create the proper finish start by moisturizing clean skin based on skin type then follow with a light application of an oil-control primer such as Hourglass Mineral Veil primer. Apply a matte/demi matte liquid foundation followed by a layer of translucent powder to set the foundation. (Skip mattifying powders which can make the skin look too flat.)
Classic shades of red, berry and plum are staples for fall lip color. In addition to these perpetual favorites, designers turned up the wattage with surprisingly bright shades typically seen in the summer. Ohne Titel featured a matte tangerine lip while Diane Von Furstenberg combined a matte, neutral face with a shocking matte pink/magenta lip reminiscent of the 1970’s.
To create a matte finish with any type of lipstick prep lips by exfoliating then moisturizing with a lip balm or lip primer. Line and fill in entire lip with a lip pencil in a shade close to desired lip color. Apply lip color, blot with tissue then repeat until you obtain desired level of pigment and matte finish
Designers including Donna Karen, Thakoon and Chanel decorated the lids of runway models with a combination of pigment, glitter and sequins. Although these trends are not as wearable as the looks mentioned above, they are suitable for those who desire a festive look for upcoming Holiday events and parties.
