There aren't too many Italian restaurants in Roseburg, Oregon - a city of approximately 22,000 located about an hour south of Eugene. In fact, Dino's Ristorante Italiano may be the only Italian restaurant within 25 miles around. However, it really doesn't matter because it stands in a league of its own, easily besting any competition if it should exist.
After spending over two weeks exploring the Oregon coastline, Crater Lake National Park, and then the Roseburg area, I can easily rate Dino's as one of the best Italian restaurants I experienced. A real culinary treasure. A family-owned restaurant located in historic downtown, Dino's specializes in authentic cuisine of Italy while taking it one step further: They use organic and/or sustainable products whenever possible and also offer gluten free or whole wheat pasta options upon request.
Though the decor is a bit dated, it is more than made up by the professional, friendly waiter service. Stephen waited our table, with suggestions on various dishes and wine. My sister ordered blackened salmon filet, pan seared with Moroccan spices, served with a fresh tomato basil vinaigrette. My choice was the veal picatta, a tender escallop of veal dusted in flour, then sauteed in a dry white wine sauce and topped with sauteed mushrooms and capers. A garnish of lemon added a finishing zest to the dish. Each dish was served with a delicious sauteed kale - best I have ever had.
Dino's is now my "go to" place for authentic Italian flavors, great service, and value-based prices.
