There are four ice arenas in the Colorado Springs area that offer programs for the general public. Each rink has some qualities that make Colorado Springs a great place for ice skating.

Best all-around ice arena: Sertich Ice Center

Each of the ice arenas in Colorado Springs has something to offer, but the best facility for all-around ice skating may be Sertich Ice Center, located in Memorial Park. The arena offers skating classes and private lessons for tots, children, and adults, public ice skating, figure skating sessions for all ages, ice dance lessons, birthday party packages, and hockey programs.

  • Pros: All the programs at Sertich Ice Center are reasonably priced.
  • Cons: Public skating is not available everyday.

Best hockey ice rink: Colorado Sports Center in Monument

The best facility for ice hockey may be Colorado Sports Center in Mounument. Al Pedersen, who played NHL hockey, runs the hockey programs. Skates and equipment are provided free of charge. Those who want to give ice hockey a try can do so in a non-threatening and fun environment.

The rink also offers public skating and learn-to-skate classes. Some ice time is available for figure skaters.

  • Pros: Opportunities to play ice hockey are available seven days a week.
  • Cons: The rink is very, very cold inside.

Best arena for figure skating: Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall

Figure skaters from all over the the world come to Colorado Springs to train at the Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall. In addition to offering figure skating programs and private lessons of the highest quality for intermediate, advanced, and elite figure skaters, the Ice Hall offers learn-to-skate classes, public skating sessions, and open hockey programs. Speed skating opportunities are also available.

  • Pros: Opportunities for figure skating for intermediate, advanced, and elite figure skaters are available from early morning to evening, six days a week.
  • Cons: The intense and competitive atmosphere at the Ice Hall may not be suitable for recreational skaters, very young children, or adults.

Best ice arena for practicing any ice skating skill: Honnen Ice Rink at Colorado College

Honnen Ice Rink at Colorado College is one of Colorado Springs' "best kept secrets." Like Sertich Ice Center, Honnen Ice Arena offers skating classes and private lessons for tots, children, and adults, public ice skating, figure skating sessions for all ages, ice dance lessons, and hockey programs. There is also a special ice skating program available for the disabled.

  • Pros: Honnen Ice Arena prides itself on the personal attention the rink is able to give to all patrons.
  • Cons: Linited parking is available near the arena.
