Christmas is Sunday and still so much to do! Desserts to make, cards to mail, so many gifts to buy. If you’re like me, you’ll be hitting the streets to cross the last items off your list. But last minute shopping means crowded malls, traffic, and stress, stress, stress!
This year, don’t let your nerves get fried. Enjoy the yuletide! Take a time out. Unwind with a cocktail. Dallas is home to some of the most creative bartenders in the business, and their Christmas cocktails will help melt away your worries. Here’s where to go to get the best holiday-inspired refreshments Dallas.
Reindeer Fuel, from Leann Berry of Komali
Santa’s got a big job ahead of him on Christmas Eve. Once word of this new drink gets out, he’s sure to stop in at Komali for a taste. Leann Berry’s Reindeer Fuel has everything Santa needs: a little booze to soothe the nerves and a touch of java for rosy cheeks. Berry starts with a shot of coffee-and-vanilla-bean-infused tequila, smoothly blends it with chilled espresso, Licor 43, and Irish crème, and ends it with a sugar and nutmeg rim. Shhh! Don’t tell Mrs. Claus Santa’s been drinking!
Cider House Rules, from Trevor Landry of Dish
Trevor Landry took a break from babysitting the troublemaking cast of A-List Dallas (they’re known to hang out here) to create this refreshing cocktail. Made with Ron Abuelo dark rum, ginger ale and a maple-apple cider reduction, one sip unleashes a kaleidoscope of Christmas flavors like cinnamon, cloves, kaffir, and orange to get you in the holiday spirit.
Cajun Christmas, from Louis Kerans of Dragonfly
Got the holiday blues, ma cher? I aksed dem boys at the Dragonfly what dey recommend and bartender Louis Kerans, he make us sometin special. This inventive shot contrasts the spiciness of Southern Comfort Fiery Pepper with velvety Heering Cherry Liqueur, with a splash of house made almond simple syrup to balance things out. Trust me, it’ll do right bayou!
Rum pa Pum Pum, from Ivan Rimach of Victor Tango
Ivan Rimach’s cocktails are so inventive, GQ Magazine once crowned him Most Inspired Bartender. For a decade, the Peruvian-born bartender made La Duni his home, but starting this week, he joins the staff of Victor Tangos, where he’ll surely soar to greater heights. His scrumptious holiday offering blends the sweetness of fresh muddled strawberries with the earthiness of cinnamon and Bacardi Oak rum.
Homemade Eggnog, from Patrick Short of Horne & Dekker
Who, who, spiked the eggnog? Bartender Patrick Short, that’s who! One night only on Christmas Eve, guests of Horne & Dekker will be able to order this elegant holiday cocktail. Too bad barmeister Patrick is being so tight-lipped about the recipe. “It’s a secret,” says November’s bartender of the month. We’ve sampled some of his other devilish drams. Trust us, it’s sure to make all your Christmas wishes come true.
