“Law and Order: SVU” has been on the air for more than a decade. The show has a loyal fan base that spans across many generations. When the series began in 1999, there were high expectations about its performance. Season 5 was full of edgy stories and interesting plots. These are the best episodes from Season 5 of "Law & Order: SVU."

Season 5, Episode 2 "Manic"

The episode opens up with a school shooting where two children die. The little boy responsible for the horrific event was apparently given medication to help a mental disorder. When the investigation gets under way, it is discovered that the prescriptions may have been illegal. The company that was manufacturing the drugs was doing experiments on children. As everything unfolds, you will be left astonished.

Season 5, Episode 7 "Choice"

In this episode Benson and Stabler are called to a bar. They find a woman with a head injury. She claims she was almost raped by a guy she knew. Later she changes her story and tells them it was her husband. She is pregnant and drinking. When her husband tells Benson and Stabler about her drinking, they don't believe him. The husband drags the wife into court and she is ordered to rehab. Throughout most of the episode the woman has Benson fooled. The final straw is when Benson finds the lady drunk and arrests her for contempt of court. It seems that the lady was hiding more than just her alcoholism.

Season 5, Episode 11 "Escape"

After a convicted sex offender escapes, Benson works hard to find him. Instead of being paired with Stabler, she is working with her ex-boyfriend, Andy. The offender kidnaps the boy he was accused of molesting and wants his name cleared before his mother dies. As a hostage scene unfolds, you get to see the truly talented Mariska Hargitay do her thing.

Season 5, Episode 19 "Sick"

When an investigation of a possible pedophile is interrupted by the parents' failure to produce the child, red flags are sent up. As Benson and Stabler dig deeper into the situation, they find that the toy mogul has been paying off the parents in an attempt to keep them quiet. This was definitely a story line ripped from the headlines, and the execution of it was perfect.
