The 55th Annual Grammy Awards are a wrap!
We were right there in the middle of the action as this year's Grammys were doled out at the Staples Center in L.A. on Sun., Feb. 10, and we caught an eyeful of talent dressed to the nines backstage. The stars turned out in their Sunday best, but some wore their red carpet styles better than others. Best Dressed Grammys 2013: The Style Awards Goes To...
Rihanna was to die for in a scarlet-red Azzedine Alaia gown, though we're pretty sure its nearly-sheer bodice just barely passed the Grammys dress code test of not being see-through or exposing any, ahem, fleshy bits. The gown's long skirt flowed like a waterfall around Rihanna when she walked, and her hair was perfection in thick waves falling past her shoulders. Easily one of the best dressed at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards this year, Rihanna topped her winning look with simple-but-sparkly jewelry and red lips. The only accessory of hers we didn't love? Ri-Ri's date, Chris Brown.
Next on our best dressed Grammys 2013 list: Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli, without question. The strapless black gown hugged the country star's body in all the right ways, with scroll patterns accentuating every curve. Carrie slapped on a $30 million necklace and called it an outfit; we definitely approve. (Wait, huh?! Read more about Carrie's practically priceless, on-loan Grammy Awards diamonds here!)
Finally, no best dressed list could be complete these days without Taylor Swift in yet another revenge dress. Whether as an in-your-face to recent ex-boyfriends or as bait for a new beau, Taylor Swift was Grammys red carpet perfection in a white J Mendel design with sexy Grecian-inspired detail work. Taylor finished her look with Jimmy Choo shoes and a polished, braided updo.
Kimbra, the female singer featured on Gotye's Grammy-winning track, "Somebody That I Used to Know", gets a minimum of honorable best-dressed mention for her creative, mermaid-esque gown by Australian designer Jamie Lee Major. We got to study Kimbra's custom pearl-encrusted, tulle-embellished gown up close backstage at the Staples Center on Sunday, and we have to say, it looked amazing on her. Her dark hair and scarlet lips set the whimsical dress off beautifully.
We interviewed Gotye briefly at the Grammys this year, and asked him how it felt to have created an instant anthem for lost love. Gotye replied, "Everything that's happened with this song since its hit, since its been finished and put out, feels...disconnected from the experience of writing it or putting the track together. [When we perform] and the whole crowd is singing every word, not just the chorus, but every word. It's quite a special thing to realize it resonates really deeply with people."
In answer to another reporter's question, Gotye explained he had tried two other singers before Kimbra joined him on the song, and the rest is Grammys history. And we're glad, because Kimbra is adorable and without that one hit song, we might never have known of her!
