Best Downtown LA sports bars: Casey's, YardHouse and Hank's

The black board at Casey's

Football season is right around the corner, and Downtown LA residents are gearing up to support our National Championship winning team, the USC Trojans. Die hard Trojan fans are so supportive, a large group travel to out of state games in order to boost the team's morale and cheer for a victory.

Most of us don’t have the ability to take that time off, so the next best thing is to catch the game at one of Downtown’s sport’s bars, drinking down a few pints of beer with some buddies.

Casey’s Irish Pub
613 S. Grand Ave, LA, CA 90027
213-629-2353

Casey’s is a subterranean Irish pub that offers great food, cheap drinks, pool, darts, and a great spot to watch the game. There are flat screens scattered throughout the large venue, as well as a huge projection screen. The bar offers a wide selection of Irish whiskey, over 35 different scotches, and great beer on tap or in the bottle. Their pulled pork sandwiches and shepherd’s pies taste great with a shot of Jameson and a pint of Guinness. The pub also offers live music on Fridays, and nearby locals get 25% off. This is a great place to hang with the boys, or for the ladies to meet some boys.

The Yard House

The Yard House
800 W. Olympic Blvd, LA, CA 90015
213-745-9273

The Yard House at LA Live touts a 2-page beer menu and proclaims to have the “world’s largest selection of draft beer,” including their own in-house brews. These beers can be enjoyed by the six-pack, goblet or pint, and by a half yard for the truly outrageous. Most bar stools and booths have a great view of one of the many flat screen TVs, perfect for watching the game. Happy hour runs M-F 3-6pm, and Su-W 10pm-Midnight, offering half priced pizzas and appetizers.

Hank's bar

Hank’s Bar
840 S. Grand Ave, LA, CA 90017
213-623-7718

The sign reads: Hank’s - The last of the great neighborhood bars - “Yesterday’s charm” -What’s not to like!

From outside, the place looks as if it may not even be open, but pop your head in and you will see that Hank’s is a friendly neighborhood dive bar that is great for a low-key evening of sports and booze. The feel is old school New York where regulars perch on barstools and everyone knows their names. The bartenders are friendly and there is nothing shi shi about this place. Drink prices are great, there are a few TVs over the bar for game viewing pleasure, and a jukebox for some background music. This is definitely the place to just kick back with a bottle of beer and root for your favorite sports team.
