The Ferry Building’s mission statement sums it up pretty well;

“We are very committed to the artisan food community and to fostering the values of that community here at the Ferry Building. We envision the Ferry Building Marketplace as a vibrant gathering of local farmers, artisan producers, and independently owned and operated food businesses and the customers they serve.”

The Ferry Building market place is located at the foot of Market Street where it meets Embarcadero. This historic building is landmarked by the clock tower in front and the illuminated Port of San Francisco sign in back and it can easily be seen from the bridge. It is a central hub and destination of both locals and tourists, accessible by Muni, Bart, and Ferry Boat. From some of San Francisco’s best restaurants to cookware stores and coffeeshops, it is a vibrant place to shop and eat.

A very popular weekend destination, the building can be noisy and crowded. Some people walk fast while others float around; just watch where you’re going.

Not really advertised on the front (west) side of the building it can easily be missed as a marketplace.

It’s like an enclosed open- market with a mix of established main locations and small boutiques that represent their larger Bay Area locations.
