Around this time of year, I notice that a lot of writers make lists. I figure I should take a crack at it since I didn't make a trip out to the theater this weekend. Hey, it's not my fault that none of the theaters in my area were playing The Road or Up in the Air. This week I'll turn my focus towards Christmas movies. Christmas is the only holiday that has managed to turn itself into a genre of film. Every year marks an obligatory holiday film for the whole family. Here are my top 5 Christmas movies of all time. Feel free to contribute your own favorites.

5. A Christmas Story

TBS gives us 24 hours of A Christmas Story each year. By doing so it has made it virtually impossible for anyone to not have seen this movie. It's a relatable narrative of a kid doing all he can for the toy he desires. Sounds similar to my #4...

4. Jingle All The Way

I'm a big fan of Arnold. I've seen all his movies and I've always felt that he was always as comical as he was powerful. Yet another narrative about seeking a desirable toy. I haven't seen it in awhile but I only remember it fondly when I first saw it as a young child. I think there's at least one movie like this that we all adore.

3. Elf

I was older when I saw this and didn't really do "kid" movies anymore. My dad took me anyway and he cried. It was heart warming to know that no matter how old we get, there is still something of value in a kid's movie.

2. Scrooged

I thought Bill Murray was the king of comedy until he started doing movies  like Lost in Translation and Broken Flowers. Bill Murray was spot on throughout the entire movie and just thinking about this movie gets me all nostalgic for the old Bill Murray.

1. Santa's Slay

Yes, B-level horror movie about Santa Claus being a demon who murders every Christmas equals the best Christmas movie I've ever seen. Not to mention it the second best performance by a professional wrestler with Bill Goldberg as Santa.* "I'm here to spread some holiday fear." Instant classic.

So there you have it. A rather unconventional five best Christmas movies of all time list.

*The best all time performance in a movie by a professional wrestler is Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride.

Christmas just isn't Christmas without "Christmas Vacation."

I can't believe "Nightmare Before Christmas" didn't make it on your list. Your list is flawed.
