On tonight’s Cooking Channel episode of “Best in Chow” host Cris Nannarone went to Hollywood, Calif. to find the best burger. Cris took his sense of humor and love for food to search for the best burger. You notice it was not the best “hamburger,” because burgers now are made from all kinds of concoctions.
People flock to Hollywood to get a taste of fame, but Cris is looking for a different taste. As he stopped the average people on the street, he asked them where he could get a good burger in Hollywood? O!Burger was the place some organic loving people agreed was great. As for organic, he is not quite ready to go that route. From a video of him at five years old showed, Cris ate everything on his plate and did not question the source. He believes that if cows are organic, that he is doing his part. However, Chef Andy Soboil gave Cris the tour around the place and showed how everything, including the ketchup is organic. The beef used for the burger is 85% beef and 15% fat. The burger was messy, but Cris loved it, and Andy stood by his burger that it was the best in the world. Ingredients include: whole grain sprouted wheat bun, homemade vegan chipotle, tomato, pickles, Napa cabbage, organic grass-fed beef, cheddar cheese and onions. (Sorry, but O!Burger has closed since Cris was there.)
After having the organic burger, Cris needed something a bit more non-organic. A group of women near the beach told him to head to Rounds Burgers for the best juicy burger in West Hollywood. As they were describing the delicious burgers there, they were salivating with delight. But Cris found out that in addition to their restaurant, they also have a truck that serves up those burgers and don’t forget; you will need lots of napkins. When Cris caught up with the truck, he met George Ghaby and his cousins George and Charbel, who also work in the truck. George even let Cris drive the truck. The public agrees that Rounds makes an awesome burger and with 39 different options to customize your burger, you can have a different burger for the next 628,320 days. George showed Cris how he makes their Western burger, starting with a large patty and a brioche bun on the grill, then he dropped the onion strings in the fryer. The patty was not turned over until there was a nice crust on the meat, bacon then went on the grill. When it was made, the bun, burger, bacon, onion strings, then topping it with barbeque sauce. Then came the eating part, and both George and Cris got to sit and savor the deliciousness. Contender #2 is Rounds Burger.
Next, Cris wanted to find one more burger contender that was old-school Hollywood. Several people agreed that he had to go to Carney’s to get a chili burger with chili fries. Cris met up with chef and owner John Wolfe, who runs this railroad type establishment. So together they made the famous chili burger. Starting with an eight-ounce burger patty and their thick homemade chili, they dined on this delicious sloppy treat. The slow motion camera work only makes viewers want to jump through the television set and grab a bite. The burger consists of a bun, mustard, pickles, raw chopped onions, a slice of tomato, certified USDA choice Angus meat, American cheese, topped with their secret homemade chili for contender #3.
Now for the judging; Cris found nine Hollywood people to do the judging of The Classic O!Burger, The Rounds Western and the Carney’s Chili Burger, but only one can be crowned the winner. As the votes were tallied, the winner was declared to be Rounds Premium Burgers that won the large trophy with the great-looking hamburger on top.
