On last night’s Cooking Channel episode of “Best in Chow,” host Cris Nannarone went to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to find the best burger as rated by the locals of this town. Cris, a comedian and veteran road warrior, took his love for food and people on this search and gave them the opportunity to judge the best burger in “The City of Champions.”

Cris questioned several people on the street, and met up with Bill Wilson, who blogs as the Baconhound, and was doing his own search for the best burger. The guys decided to team up and the first place they went was The Next Act in the theater district. Classically trained chef, Nathan McLaughlin is the chef and owner and offered his entry, The Critic who fans agree will win. It contained; a brioche bun, locally raised beef patty, applewood smoked cheddar, double smoked bacon, caramelized onions, house-made barbeque sauce, pickle, tomato and green leaf lettuce.

His next stop was the Delux Burger Bar to meet with executive chef Paul Schufelt. He made his famous Kobe Stack, an eight-inch high burger delight that contains eight ounces of Wagyu beef and Angus mixed at 80/20 ratio. Cris loved the burger that contained; shiny top bun, spicy mayo, Wagyu beef patty, applewood smoked cheddar, caramelized onions, double smoked bacon, beer-battered onion rings,, butterleaf lettuce, tomatoes, and kosher dill pickle.

For the last place, they went to Rodeo Burgers and met with Sandy Sereda, co-owner of this and 28 other restaurants. She genuinely gave Cris a run for his money, and her comical ways were a perfect match to Cris as they cajoled while making the burger. The Western Burger was truly something Cris was surprised he liked with guacamole on it. The burger contained; a Kaiser bun, rodeo sauce, guacamole, green chiles, lettuce, cheese, certified Angus beef patty, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, bacon and southwest sauce.

Next Cris went to the locals to find his jury, and take them to each burger joint and just watch them enjoy these treats. Now this is the kind of jury duty everyone should have!

Finally, the votes were cast, and the best burger in Edmonton was awarded to Chef Nathan and The Critic at The Next Act, congratulations, and enjoy that burger trophy!
